Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Urgent Care is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider who actively renders direct patient care and possesses delegated prescriptive authority. The NP is credentialed and privileged, and bills separately as recognized by Medicare and Medicaid within the healthcare systems. The Advanced Practice Provider delivers medical care based upon the scope of practice outlined by the supervising physician, typically in an urgent care or convenient care clinic.
EssentialFunctions of the Role
- Assess physical and mental condition of patients by performing comprehensive or problem‑focused physical examinations and medical histories.
- Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and healthcare needs.
- Prescribe, recommend, or employ medical drug therapies or other therapeutic treatments and perform indicated procedures in accordance with approved policies, emphasizing efficacy, safety, and cost.
- Formulate and implement comprehensive, outcomes‑based patient treatment plans based on patient assessments, evidence‑based medicine, standards of care, professional practice guidelines, and collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
- Evaluate patient’s response to healthcare provided and the effectiveness of care.
- Counsel patients and families regarding medical processes, management of health conditions, medication, nutrition, and health promotion; advise on drug regimens and potential side effects or interactions with substances.
- Maintain detailed records of patient treatment plans and outcomes; initiate timely consultation or referral when scope of practice exceeded.
- Provide consultation‑level services for conditions related to the Provider’s specialty and training.
- Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and competency as delegated by supervising physician.
- May be required to perform patient care duties beyond the regular schedule to meet department coverage needs.
- Knowledge of diagnosing and treating human injuries, diseases, and deformities; including drug properties and preventive health‑care measures.
- Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating physical and mental dysfunctions.

- Proficiency in computers and related software applications.
- Ability to develop and implement comprehensive, outcomes‑based patient treatment plans.
- Ability to counsel patients on medical and psychiatric conditions, treatment plans, and behavior modification.
- Skill in interpreting and evaluating laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Licensure:
Texas RN or RN with compact privilege from a compacts state;
Texas APRN license. - Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Texas.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- Certification from an accredited board as an APRN for the patient population focus required.
