Job Title: Teacher/Head Tennis Coach (Subject Open) 26-27
Reports to: Campus Principal and Director of Athletics
Wage Status: Exempt
Department/Campus: Assigned Campus
Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale
Work Days: 187
Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in sport assigned. Contribute to education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics. Lead and supervise assigned sport and enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to supervisor and lead other coaches
- Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
- Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules
- Knowledge of subjects and/or sport assigned
- General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
- Required Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct, supervise and motivate student athletes
- Excellent knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures to compete at a high level and manage their behavior
At least 3 years of teaching
Four years' experience as coach or participant in sport assigned
Successful in assigned sport as head coach
Essential Job Functions:
- Fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all UIL rules
- Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Supervise all aspects of leadership in assigned program and continue to build a highly competitive team each year...from the feeder program to the high school
- Monitors the academic performance of the students at all times during the school year
- Evaluate the assistants at the high school under your supervision
- Assigns duties to assistant coaches as necessary
- Provide the support needed to middle school staff related to continuing to build the program to a high level of success....player development is a must
- Conduct parent meetings to address goals and expectations of the program
- Involve all coaches in preparation, planning and practices...treat equally related to expectations
- Assess players skills and assign team positions based on ability
- Conduct tryouts to assess all skills needed to perform at a high level of success and must be part of Middle School tryouts.
- Regular practice planning is a must.
- Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, skills and techniques of the sport
- Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
- Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
- Observes all players skill and ability in the program and makes decisions for change related to individual and team improvement.
