In this innovative role, you’ll focus on enhancing digital collections, enriching metadata, and developing automated captioning pipelines to improve efficiency and scalability across the Libraries. This role involves hands-on development and evaluation of AI-enabled workflows, with an emphasis on sustainable, production-ready solutions. Reporting to the Director of Digital Collections, you’ll design and sustain AI-driven solutions while collaborating with Texas A&M High Performance Research Computing to leverage advanced infrastructure for emerging initiatives.
Working closely with colleagues across the Libraries and campus, you’ll evaluate new technologies, champion responsible and sustainable applications, and align innovation with our mission to enable access, discovery, and long-term stewardship of scholarly resources.
* Engage in professional development through research and presentations.
* Represent the Libraries in AI and digital library initiatives at all levels.
* Stay current on AI, ML, and digital library trends to guide local practices.

* Qualifications:
*** Master’s degree in Library Science or a related field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or Digital Humanities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Five years of related experience.
* Knowledge of academic library functions.
** A well-qualified candidate may also possess:
*** Experience working with digital libraries, repositories, data pipelines, artificial intelligence, machine learning tools, or related technologies.
* Experience working with digital collections, research data, or cultural heritage materials in libraries, archives, museums, or academic settings.
* Familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts such as large language models, natural language processing, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
* Experience with AI/ML frameworks and tools.
* Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language.
* Knowledge of metadata standards and digital library platforms.
* Strong ability to learn and apply emerging technologies, collaborate effectively across teams, and communicate technical concepts clearly to audiences is essential, along with a commitment to ethical and sustainable AI solutions for cultural heritage and academic contexts.
* Ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities.
Ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment. Conflict resolution skills.
