Job Description Summary

The Assistant Vice President, Instructional Technology & Regional Networking at the University of Maryland (UMD) provides strategic leadership for integrated instructional and networking strategies within the Division of Information Technology (DIT).

The AVP fosters innovative, technology-enhanced pedagogical practices, collaborative learning environments, and experiential learning to enhance student success and academic excellence. The AVP also leads the Mid-Atlantic Crossroads (MAX), which operates the University’s Research and Educational Network (REN) and designs advanced cyber‑infrastructure for federal agencies, higher education, and the private sector.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work. Occasional lifting up to 10 pounds. Repetitive motion. Visual acuity required for data analysis and computer use. Some travel for conferences and client visits.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Fourteen (14) years in professional classroom technology support or troubleshooting in an academic setting; seven (7) years supervising or managing professional staff.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of tools and technology used to support instruction.
  • Knowledge of current educational theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of trends and future directions of technology in the academic environment.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
Preferences
  • Doctorate degree
  • Experience applying for and receiving federal agency contracts and grants
  • Experience communicating technical information to non‑technical audiences
Additional Job Details

All DIT positions require in‑person work at the College Park, MD location; telework is not guaranteed.
