Program Overview

The program, led by Peraton Labs with external infrastructure support, conducts advanced research for the customer on a variety of topics, including cybersecurity, RF solutions, and quantum communications. Mission focus is on developing next-gen tools for detecting cyber-attacks, enhancing network resilience, and improving small-form factor sensor systems while maintaining a focus on cutting-edge technologies like machine learning and software-defined networking.

About The Role

Peraton Labs is seeking a skilled and experienced Application Prototype Engineer to join our research team supporting fully cleared research efforts for our Maryland-based IC customer. You will work on cutting-edge research and development projects in a collaborative and innovative team environment and will be instrumental in developing, maintaining, and enhancing research prototype application systems, ranging from processing-intensive analytics to real-time systems and business management solutions.

You would work both independently and collaboratively within our research team to create and refine innovative prototypes based on documented requirements.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Analyzing customer requirements to design and define prototype performance standards.
  • Design and code new software or modify existing software to add features and improve functionality.
  • Debug prototypes and resolve defects.
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments.
  • Develop and execute test procedures for prototype components, ensuring adherence to design requirements.
  • Create and implement data queries for existing and proposed databases or data repositories.
  • Make recommendations for improving documentation and development process standards.
  • Design or implement complex algorithms, database interfaces, or queries to meet prototype performance and functional requirements.
  • Provide specific input on system designs, including hardware/software tradeoffs, software reuse, and the use of COTS/GOTS in lieu of new development.
  • Collaborate with system and hardware engineers to derive requirements and ensure operational specifications are met.
  • Lead research teams, delegate tasks, and monitor performance to meet project objectives.

This position requires full time on-site work out of College Park, MD or Laurel, MD.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications

  • 12 years of application prototype development experience with a BS in Computer Science or related discipline, 10 YOE with a MS, or 8 years with a Ph.D. An additional 4 years of experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree (totaling 16 years).
  • Expertise in programming languages such as Python, C, Java, or Go.
  • Familiarity with Git Hub, Agile methodologies, Jenkins, and software development practices.
  • Hands-on experience in designing algorithms, database interfaces, and complex data queries.
  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively with internal employees, sub-contractors, and the customer.
  • This position requires a current/active TS/SCI with Poly.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with the research and development environment.
  • Knowledge of hardware/software tradeoffs and COTS/GOTS integration
  • Experience in quality control processes for prototype development.

Target Salary Range: $176,000 - $282,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
