Job Description – ICU/Stepdown
Beds: 12
Ratios: 1:4–6
EMR: CPSI

Certifications:

BLS, ACLS required; PALS preferred
Charge RN:
Yes (typically no patient assignment; assists ER as needed)
Nurse Aides:
Yes, each shift
Weekend Requirement:
Every 3rd weekend (may vary based on need)
Holidays:
Rotated with permanent staff
Scrubs:
Any professional color
Clinical Details:
Telemetry with central monitors; RNs must read and interpret strips
Low-level ICU: may manage drips until transfer (heparin, nitro, Cardizem, amiodarone, insulin; occasional pressors)
No ventilators
Strong IV skills preferred; no IV team
RT not in-house—RNs provide treatments (BiPAP, nebs, etc.)
ER available 24/7; hospitalist on-call
Pharmacist onsite until 3 PM; tele-pharmacy after hours

Within facility based on skills
Orientation: 1 shift with a preceptor
Patient Population:
CHF, COPD, pneumonia, arrhythmias, sepsis. Most surgical cases transfer out.
Notes:
