Position SummaryThe Registered Nurse assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care provided to a group of patients. This nurse leads the nursing team in the care directed by the attending physician and in collaboration with other health care providers in accordance with Pro Medica Acute Care Hospitals’ philosophy and policies. The nurse actively participates in creating an environment that fosters patient, family, physician, and employee satisfaction, ensuring decisions are based on a patient- and family-centered care philosophy that utilizes evidence-based practices and focuses on safety, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
Scopeof Service
The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to individuals and groups requiring specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, spiritual/cultural, and nursing sciences. The RN functions within the full scope of nursing practice as noted by the Board of Nursing in the state of practice and complies with all hospital accrediting bodies.
Accountabilities- Patient & Family Centered Care – Recognize the patient or designee as the source of control and partner in care.
- Elicit and communicate patient values, preferences, and expressed needs.
- Provide patient-centered care with sensitivity and respect for diversity and engage patients or surrogates in active partnerships that promote health, safety, and well-being.
- Respond to educational needs considering patient comprehension and learning style.
- Collaborate with patient, family, and healthcare team to ensure appropriate transitions.
- Evaluate patient response and intervene to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Evidenced-Based Practice – Integrate best current evidence with clinical expertise and patient/family preferences.
- Base individualized care plan on patient values, clinical expertise, and evidence.
- Nursing Practice – Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
- Prioritize problems and make sound judgments based on logic and critical thinking.
- Safety and Quality Improvement – Minimize risk of harm, administer medications per state licensure, use technology that supports safety, participate in unit-based quality improvement and evidence-based projects, and promote error prevention.
- Informatics & Technology – Use technology to communicate, manage information, mitigate errors, document in the electronic health record, respond to clinical alerts, and protect patient privacy.
- Communication, Teamwork & Collaboration – Interact effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to foster open communication and shared decision-making, coordinate care, act with integrity, delegate appropriately, and use the chain of command for barriers and safety concerns.
- Leadership & Professionalism – Influence behavior, uphold core values, maintain knowledge of scope of practice, promote systems thinking and change, and supervise ancillary personnel.
- Systems-Based Practice – Participate in system-level practices, plan and deliver care in the unit context, round with providers, practice bedside reports, ensure hourly rounding, and use the chain of command to maintain safety, quality, and satisfaction.

Education
:
The RN in Michigan must complete 25 contact hours of continuing education during the licensure period, including 2 hours related to pain management and 1 hour related to implicit bias training.
License
:
Current state license as a Registered Nurse.
Certification
:
Current CPR training. Specialty certifications required: ER RN must possess and maintain ACLS, BLS, and PALS; TNCC and ENPC certifications (obtained within one year of employment).
