Job Summary
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Actively participates in the creation of an environment that fosters patient, family, physician, and employee satisfaction.
Duties- Accurately and efficiently fills and labels prescriptions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies to maintain appropriate inventory levels and minimize waste or shortage.
- Assists in completing all medication inspections and identifies and removes all outdated and unusable medications.
- Prepare, package, and coordinate shipment of specialty and mail-order medications in accordance with pharmacy procedures and delivery timelines.
- Collaborates with other health care professionals in meeting departmental goals. Establishes and maintains mechanisms for communication and constructive problem solving. Utilizes a team approach in decision-making and problem solving. Builds trust and mutual respect.
- Performs training of new employees and in-services current employees in areas of specialization and/or expertise.
- Maintains professional, helpful, and courteous relationships with other employees, patients, and their families.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in an ethical and responsible manner.
- Supports the department in providing a vision for its direction and embraces the change process to achieve the vision.
- Strives for continuous improvement by focusing on key department metrics.
- Communicates effectively orally and in writing within department as well as to all external customers.
- Provide courteous and professional service to patients, addressing inquiries and concerns promptly while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA requirements.
- Keep the pharmacy workspace clean, organized, and professional while always following infection control and safety protocols.
- Operate and maintain pharmacy systems and automation tools to support dispensing, inventory tracking, and patient record management.
- Adheres to all federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures governing pharmacy operations.

License: Licensed Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern License with Michigan Board of Pharmacy. May be hired with a Temporary Pharmacy Technician License (expires 1 year from receipt) with expectation of Pharmacy Technician license being obtained within 6 months of hire.

Working ConditionsPersonal Protective Equipment: Will wear appropriate PPE as required for compounding nonsterile, sterile, and hazardous products.
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift materials up to 50 pounds. Non-material handling of continuous sitting and reaching, standing, squatting, kneeling, walking, and stairs. Frequent manual manipulations may affect hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. Must be able to move about and between workstations.
