Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Inpatient
The Lakes Mental Health Unit in Colchester has two inpatient units:
Ardleigh (all-female) and Gosfield (all-male). Each ward has 18 beds, refurbished interiors, gardens, LTS and seclusion facilities. There is also a 136‑assessment suite designated as a place of safety on the site.

About EPUTEPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to join and lead on the Ardleigh ward based at the Lakes Mental Health Unit.

Main duties- Provide clinical care to patients admitted to the ward and work closely with the team and ward manager to ensure effective service provision.
- Lead multidisciplinary care, liaise with GPs, other psychiatrists and statutory/non‑statutory agencies.
- Offer an evidence‑based approach and timely interventions aligned with the recovery model.
- Attend Mental Health Act assessments and act as Responsible Clinician for inpatients, including attending Tribunals.
- Supervise junior and middle‑grade doctors and participate in teaching programmes.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of care programmes, clinical governance, audit and service development.
- Ensure appropriate clinical cross‑cover provision for daytime and leave periods.
- MB/BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Registration with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register; or within six months of obtaining CCT
- Meets Royal College of Psychiatrists criteria for appointment to the post of Consultant
- Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician Status
- Postgraduate degree in psychiatry (MRC Psych or equivalent)
- Qualified for the GMC Specialist Register (General Adult)
- Additional clinical qualifications and a higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management (if applicable)
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice
