Registered Manager – EBD Children’s Home (Colchester)
Location: Colchester, Essex Contract: Full-time, Permanent Reports to: Responsible Individual / Director Regulatory Framework: Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 & Quality Standards
Role PurposeThe Registered Manager leads a residential children’s home supporting young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). The role ensures the home provides a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where children can thrive. This includes full regulatory compliance, staff leadership, safeguarding oversight, and delivering consistently high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strong, visible leadership to the staff team, modelling best practice and trauma-informed approaches.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the home, ensuring a stable, child-centred environment.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and develop staff, ensuring high performance and retention.
- Lead team meetings, reflective practice sessions, and performance reviews.
Essential
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete within required timeframe).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a senior role within a children’s residential EBD setting.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, safeguarding legislation, and Ofsted requirements.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and drive improvement.
Desirable
- Experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager.
- Additional therapeutic training (e.g., PACE, Attachment & Trauma, Restorative Practice).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Emotionally resilient and calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to build trust with young people who have experienced trauma.
