We are currently looking for a Health Care Assistant to work in our Rapid Response team, part time Twilight shifts from 8pm to 2am. This is a part time role, hours to be agreed, but minimum hours would be 18 per week.
Your main duties would be:
- To assist Registered Nurse/paramedic overnight in providing high standards of specialist palliative care to patients and their relatives in their own homes
- To assist the Registered Nurse/paramedic with providing catheter and bowel management as part of our night integration service with the community nursing team
- To support the Registered Nurse/Paramedic overnight with taking direct calls and placing them on the triage list for a clinician to support and assess further and determine the appropriate outcomes
- To provide physical, social, emotional and spiritual care in the patient’s home and the inpatient unit (when required) in agreement with the patient and family
- Identify and adapt clinical support given under the varying professions guiding principles of care and be able to switch approach as directed
- The care will be planned and assessed by Registered Nurses
- The post holder will provide care in accordance with agreed procedures and protocols. Healthcare Assistants are lone workers and need to follow policies and procedures at all times
- To be flexible with learning new skills to benefit service development and own practice for patient care
£24,672 - £26,315 per annum FTE

What we’re looking for- Proven awareness of the possible needs of patients, families under the care of St Helena
- Knowledge of illness as a carer and the ability to recognise when a person has physical, social, psychological or spiritual care needs
- Must have a Full UK Driving Licence
- GCSE in English and Maths is essential
