Role Summary

We are looking for a reliable and detail‑oriented Pharmacy Dispenser to join our dispensary team. As a dispenser at Colchester City Pharmacy, you will work under the supervision of the pharmacist to ensure the accurate dispensing of prescriptions, manage stock, provide excellent customer service, and contribute to a safe and efficient pharmacy operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately prepare, label, and dispense prescription medications in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Verify prescription data and endorse prescriptions as needed
  • Handle repeat prescription requests and process them efficiently
  • Assist in stock management: ordering, receiving, checking, and rotating stock to minimize wastage
  • Maintain accurate records of controlled drugs, where applicable
  • Prepare monitored dosage systems (e.g., dosette boxes), if required
  • Provide patients with basic advice on how to take their medicines, referring to the pharmacist for clinical queries
  • Support day‑to‑day dispensary operations, including housekeeping, filing, and pharmacy administration
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including health & safety, data protection, and pharmacy legislation
  • Work collaboratively with the pharmacy team to deliver a high standard of patient care
Person Specification / Requirements Essential
  • Previous experience working in a pharmacy or dispensary environment
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good communication skills and a customer‑friendly attitude
  • Basic IT skills (to use pharmacy software)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and under supervision
  • Flexible to work a variety of shifts (may include weekends)
Desirable
  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Pharmacy Services / Dispenser qualification
  • Experience with monitored dosage systems / dosette boxes
  • Oakfields Health Group
  • Prior experience in community pharmacy
Other Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo)
  • Basic understanding of pharmacy regulatory standards
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality
