Overview
Hardware Design Engineer at Concurrent
, a leader in high‑performance embedded computing solutions for defence, telecoms, and aerospace. This permanent, full‑time role is based at our Colchester site (Essex) or Theale office (Reading) and offers a flexible hybrid schedule.
- Support the development of new board‑level products, working from concept through to layout.
- Carry out digital hardware and firmware design of processor‑based products.
- Create schematics and PCB layouts, ensuring mechanical and thermal compliance with specifications and schedule requirements.
- Conduct design reviews, including schematic and PCB layout reviews.
- Prepare and submit technical work for lifecycle reviews.
- Perform and document design analysis and development activities as directed.
- Validate designs through final verification testing.
- Produce required design and user documentation.
- Report technical issues and progress, supporting the Projects team with schedule and risk management input.
Essential Skills
- BEng/MEng/MSc in Electronic Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with high‑speed digital circuit design.
- Excellent problem‑solving and debugging skills.
- Strong communication skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with PC motherboard architectures, such as 64‑bit microprocessors, PCI Express, 100 Gb Ethernet, and advanced memory.
- Knowledge of programmable logic devices or FPGA.
- Embedded software experience or appreciation.
- Familiarity with Intel or ARM chipsets.
- Fearless curiosity and a willingness to embrace change.
- Commitment to customer service and delivering high‑quality solutions.
- Agile, fast‑paced work style with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Desire to learn, experiment, and not afraid to fail.
