SEMH Teacher | Colchester

Pay Rate
: £150 - £220 per day

Location: Colchester, Essex

Contract: Full-Time, Fixed Term

Do you believe that every child in Colchester deserves a champion, no matter their history?

Are you a qualified and experienced teacher handling children with SEMH needs?

We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teacher to join a specialist provision in Colchester. This role isn't just about delivering a curriculum; it's about providing the stability, empathy, and resilience that students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs require to re-engage with learning.

In a town where community and connection matter, you will be the anchor for students who have often felt adrift in mainstream education.

Are you ready to stop managing behaviour and start building bridges?

The Role
  • Leading a small class with significant SEMH needs, including those with trauma-related backgrounds or ADHD.
  • Designing lessons that prioritise emotional regulation and social skills alongside academic attainment.
  • Implementing Trauma Perceptive Practice (TPP) to understand that "behaviour is communication."
  • Utilising the local environment for outdoor learning and community-based activities to build real-world confidence.
What You'll Need
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • A calm, patient demeanor and the ability to remain professional in high-stress situations.
  • The skill to pivot a lesson on a dime if a student's emotional state requires a different approach.
  • Experience working with multi-agency teams, including educational psychologists and social workers.
Why choose this role?
  • Competitive pay rate, recognising the specialist nature of your skills.
  • Work in an environment where you are supported by highly trained LSAs in every lesson.
  • Access to bespoke training in de-escalation, attachment theory, and therapeutic play.
  • Work in a scenic coastal location with a unique, tight-knit school community that feels like a family.
