Position Summary The Environmental Services (EVS) Supervisor leads the day-to‑day operations of the Environmental Service Department and reports to the EVS Manager. Responsible for consistent delivery of hospital spaces, including cleanliness and overall presentation. Leads a team of EVS techs performing the Environmental Service Department daily duties. Carries out all duties by adhering to the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct, acts in the best interest of Kootenai Health, and fully supports the mission, vision and values of Kootenai Health.
Provides a safe, clean environment for patients, staff and visitors at Kootenai Health. The EVS Supervisor is integral to an overall positive patient/guest experience.
Responsibilities
- Plans work schedules and assigns hours and areas of work to ensure adequate services for all areas of the hospital
- Interviews, selects, hires, and evaluates personnel; participates in the disciplinary process with HR, including terminations
- Inspects and evaluates the physical condition of the hospital
- Provides direction, on‑job training and continued guidance to staff
- Creates an atmosphere that supports and encourages high performance, teamwork and continued improvement
- Rounds daily in all work areas to maintain contact with customers and caregivers to promote teamwork within the department
- Performs routine inspections with direct reports and visual inspection of hospital environment
- Coordinates activities with other departments to ensure that services are provided in an efficient and timely manner
- Oversees linen operations; including maintaining relationship with vendor and monitoring linen inventory and distribution within Kootenai Health
- Stays up‑to‑date on all Environmental Service regulatory compliance
- Adheres to all organizational safety, risk management and infection control standards and promotes a culture of safety
- Aids in performing some EVS duties as required
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Competent to meet age‑specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree required; 2 years related experience may be accepted in lieu of an Associate’s degree
- 2 years’ leadership experience required in addition to education requirement
- Continuing education and certification following hire strongly encouraged
- Previous hospital environmental services experience preferred
- Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) preferred
Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to maintain a standing position
- Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend or twist
- Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
- Must be able to reach arms above or below shoulder height
- Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens
