Position Summary
Responsible for educating hospital staff, including Nursing and PETS, on proper lift equipment and techniques. Coordinates patient transport and equipment needs. In addition, performs duties of Patient Equipment Transporter including physically transferring patients from bed to gurney or bed to wheel chair utilizing proper lift assist techniques and equipment.
- Responsible for developing and managing a certified health care transporter program that encompasses curriculum through ITC (Impact Training Corporation) collaborated with National association of healthcare transport management (NAHTM).
- Coordinates annual skills training and ensures ongoing staff competency in Safe patient handling and mobility related techniques, signing off each transporter for their annual training.
- Serves as the hospital point of contact for questions from units, including Nursing and PET employees, surrounding equipment and proper lift techniques, frequently providing education as needed.
- Serves as point of contact for assisting with difficult patient lifts, as needed by Nursing and PETS.
- Assists with questions as needed in absence of Patient Equipment Transport Coordinator.
- Works in collaboration with the Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Coordinator to stay up to date on best practice lift techniques and equipment.
- Works closely with clinical staff to ensure transport needs are met.
- Cleans, stocks, organizes and distributes equipment used in patient care.
- Communicates with clinical staff and patients.
- Works under the supervision of a management team.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function.
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 2 years’ experience in patient and/or equipment transport required.
- NAHTM patient transport instructor certification required within 1 year of hire.
- Completes annual certification training to maintain compliance with national certification.
- BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS during General Orientation.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 35lbs.
- Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position.
- Typical equipment used in a clinical job.
- Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend.
- Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment.
- Must be able to assist in patient transfer.
