Summary
The Principal Electrical Engineer is a technical leader and subject matter expert responsible for architecting, designing, and guiding the development of complex electrical and embedded systems across 1
HMX’s product portfolio. This role influences technology strategy and leads cross-functional engineering efforts while providing deep technical guidance from concept through sustained production.
This position drives innovation within the New Product Introduction (NPI) area, mentors engineering teams, and serves as a key decision-maker in electrical system design, embedded architecture, and hardware verification. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer who thrives on solving big challenges, pushing technology boundaries, and shaping the future of human–machine interaction.
Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership- Lead system architecture development for complex HMI, embedded, and electro-mechanical systems.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in electrical design, embedded systems, and hardware/software integration.
- Own and guide full lifecycle development from concept feasibility to pilot builds and full-rate production.
- Architect and design advanced analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits.
- Lead embedded firmware/software integration for ARM-based systems, SBC/SoM platforms, and custom electronics.
- Direct and validate schematic and PCB development using OrCAD/Allegro and oversee board bring-up activities.
- Drive robust design verification plans, system-level testing, and root-cause analysis.
- Apply design of experiments to technology evaluation and drive innovation in core HMX domains.
- Guide teams in emerging technologies including sensing, PCAP touch, display interfaces, AR/VR, motion tracking, control systems, and wireless communication.
- Influence long‑term technology roadmaps and capability development within engineering.
- Lead and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams within Concurrent Engineering and NPI efforts.
- Collaborate with program management, manufacturing, operations, and quality to ensure design intent, scalability, and manufacturing readiness.
- Provide guidance for production test system development and design-for-automation initiatives.
- Represent engineering in customer meetings, technical reviews, and strategic discussions.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical or embedded systems engineering including demonstrated technical leadership in complex product development environments.
- Proven success leading full lifecycle product development for complex systems.
- Deep expertise in:
- ARM M0–M7 microcontrollers
- SBC/SoM platforms (i.MX6/i.MX8, A-series)
- Embedded OS (Linux, RTOS), firmware development, C/C++, Qt Embedded, QML
- Communication interfaces (USB, I2C, SPI, CANbus, BT, WiFi, Ethernet)
- Touch technologies (PCAP) and advanced sensing
- Strong ability to drive architecture decisions, solve complex problems, and lead design at a systems level.
- Exceptional communication skills with demonstrated ability to influence, mentor, and lead technical teams.
- Highly collaborative, proactive, and comfortable with a fast pace, ambiguity, and multi-program execution.
- Experience leading cross-functional project teams or serving as a systems-level technical lead.
- Background in AR/VR, motion tracking, IMUs, advanced sensing, robotics, or algorithm development.
- Experience with concept testing, requirements management, and voice-of-customer translation.
- Demonstrated experience driving organizational or process improvements.
- Expertise in design-for-automation and manufacturing scalability.
