In this roleIn this role, you’ll be actively involved in the classroom during all scheduled hours, working side by side with the Classroom Teacher and center team. You’ll help keep the classroom clean, organized, and safe while providing constant, active supervision of children. You’ll support lesson planning and hands-on learning activities, assist with screenings and assessments, and help document children’s progress through observations and portfolios.
You’ll also help meet children’s daily needs, including feeding, toileting, and individualized supports, and assist with disability services as needed. When the Classroom Teacher is away, you’ll step in to help lead the classroom. Outside of the classroom, you’ll build positive relationships with families, take part in professional development, support overall center operations, and participate in committees and team efforts.

We’re looking for someone who is patient, dependable, and enjoys connecting with children and families from all backgrounds. The Assistant Teacher maintains a positive attitude, strong teamwork skills, and a genuine interest in early childhood development. The ideal candidate is comfortable using basic computer systems, respect confidentiality, and take pride in representing Head Start with professionalism in the classroom and the community.

Minimum Qualifications- Education:
Level I:
Have a CDA (Child Development Associate) credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, are enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire. - Level II:
Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, or Child Development. - Experience:
Experience as a staff or volunteer in a preschool classroom.
- Register with Idaho STARS and participate in the professional development system.
- Maintain current Infant/child & Adult CPR and First Aid.
- Meet terms of Statement of Agreement/ Employment Declaration.
- Pass an enhanced criminal background check including fingerprinting, as required by Head Start Program Performance Standards and Child Care Licensing requirements, prior to first day of work.
$17.40 - $18.42
Work Site LocationHead Start - Coeur d'Alene
Work SchedulePart-time, up to 19.5 hours/week (August - June)
