Job Description & How to Apply Below

In line with our redeployment policy, we’ll prioritise applications from employees who are under formal notice of redundancy.

We’re looking for a Facilities Manager to join one of our newly formed Lake District facilities teams. You’ll be responsible for your own patch but work closely with three other Facilities Managers to share knowledge and resources and improve working practices.

This role will look after Wordsworths House and Garden in Cockermouth, a small collection of buildings in Whitehaven, as well as three rangers bases and other small buildings in Wasdale and Eskdale.

We are happy to discuss where this role is based with the successful candidate. Regular travel to other sites will be required.

No weekend working anticipated. Full working pattern to be agreed with successful candidate.

What it's like to work here

In our Facilities team, we’re lucky enough to care for some of the most breathtaking corners of the Lake District and Cumbria - from our listed Georgian townhouse in Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth, to the unique Fog Signal Station on the St Bees coast and then our six Lakeland valleys Borrowdale, Buttermere, Ennerdale, Wasdale, Eskdale and Duddon; it really is a special place to work.

As well as working with Facilities colleagues you’ll be part of a much larger multidisciplinary team including Rangers, Business Support and Visitor Welcome staff. The facilities team plays a vital role in keeping everything running smoothly for staff and visitors so there is always a lot going on!

What you’ll be doing

As Facilities Manager you’ll play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of our buildings by coordinating and delivering a range of planned preventive and reactive maintenance. You will lead for compliance at your buildings as well as working collaboratively with colleagues, contractors and volunteers to deliver projects. You’ll work to protect the historic environment whilst ensuring we continue to improve our climate resilience.

And you'll be a key user of our systems, helping to manage information and monitor works.

Who we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

  • experienced in managing facilities, or supervising, and looking to develop your career
  • keenly interested in looking after buildings and assets to a high standard
  • skilled in managing relations with contractors
  • focused on detail, especially to do with health and safety and compliance
  • knowledgeable of environmental and climate initiatives
  • able to manage large maintenance budgets and make sure projects run smoothly.
