Must-Have:
- Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
- BLS must be completed through an accredited source
- Must pass BCA testing during the first week of assignment
Description:
Floating between departments and/or local locations within a required distance is necessary.
Assess all triage patients over 20 weeks of gestation.
Utilize obstetric triage acuity tools for evaluations.
Conduct labor assessments and evaluations.
Perform fetal evaluations and assessments.
Evaluate for labor at term and signs of preterm labor, preeclampsia, rupture of membranes, decreased fetal movement, preterm premature rupture of membranes, vaginal bleeding, and critical conditions.
If an emergency medical condition is detected, stabilize the patient for delivery or transfer to a higher level of care if needed.
During intrapartum care, assess and evaluate labor and provide necessary care.
Prepare expectant mothers for safe deliveries.
Administer medications including but not limited to Pitocin, misoprostol, methergine, hemabate, magnesium sulfate, terbutaline, labetalol, nifedipine, hydralazine, and insulin.
Immediately stabilize newborns upon delivery.
Administer medications to newborns.
Prepare for scheduled or emergency cesarean deliveries.
Postpartum and newborn care involves assessing and caring for patients following both vaginal and cesarean deliveries.
Newborn care can include conducting hearing screens, assisting with laboratory draws, IV starts and care, and administering medications.
Assist with circumcisions, care of opiate withdrawal newborns, stabilization of critically ill newborns for transport, phototherapy, and hypoglycemia care.
