Monday - Friday: 6:30am - 3:00pm; overtime as needed

JOB SUMMARY:

The Wedger is responsible for using compressed air or hydraulic pressure to make a complete break or separation of the rock in either block or loaf form. The Wedger will also assist and learn in all other quarry functions when not wedging. This includes, but is not limited to, learning how to run quarry wire saws, quarry drills, and other mobile equipment.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

* Evaluate the current stability of the block or ledge.

* Determine what the probable movement of the pieces will be after the splitting process.

* Must not be hesitant to ask for help if uncomfortable or uncertain of possible movement. Develop an appropriate fall prevention plan. Position mobile power equipment in a safe location.

* Place wedges and half-rounds into drilled holes as has been previously successful.

* Remove yourself from surface being broke whenever possible. If not possible make absolutely certain that you are on the "heavy" side of the split.

* Be aware of trip hazards.

* Remove wedges from split and store them for the next usage. Never retrieve a fallen wedge from an open split.

* Assist other team members with their functions and cross train on all job tasks related to the quarry.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* This position spends 100% of the time outdoors. Quarry conditions can vary from extreme summer heat to below zero cold, wind and rain. Be willing to travel to different quarry locations if needed.

* Must be able to detected cracks and seams in the material as well as the ability to recognize roughback hazards.

* This position requires traversing of rough terrain. Need to climb ladders, steps or other elevated platforms. Must be able to lift 60 lbs. This position involves frequent bending.
