English Instructor (Full-Time, Tenure-Track) – Clovis Community College

Essential Functions of PositionAt Clovis Community College we value the ability to serve students from a broad range of cultural heritages, socioeconomic backgrounds, genders, abilities and orientations. The successful candidate will be an equity-minded leader committed to student success achieved through collaboration with faculty, classified staff, administration, students and community partners who are also dedicated to closing equity gaps.
- Teach a full schedule of English courses which include transfer-level composition and critical thinking.
- Implement appropriate practices to develop writing skills at all levels.
- Participate in program development and expansion of English courses, including connections with industry and Guided Pathways.
- Participate in program planning, student-learning-outcome development and assessment to improve student learning.
- Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed.
- Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed.
- Fulfllling all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students, related to equity-minded practice within the classroom; and
- Master’s in English, Literature, Comparative Literature, or Composition; or
- Bachelor’s in any of the above and master’s in Linguistics, TESL, Speech, Education with a specialization in Reading, Creative Writing or Journalism; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

- Experience and skill incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into responsibilities.
- Experience with racially minoritized students and understanding of exclusionary patterns in higher education.
- Experience with students of diverse backgrounds including disabilities.
- Willingness to develop and expand the college English program.
- Online teaching certificate or willingness to earn one; readiness to teach classes online.
- Knowledge of AB 705 and current pedagogy for teaching writing; assessment methods and outcomes development.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff; strong communication and technology skills.
178 duty days per year. Starting annual salary is $71,054 – $106,970 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and CalSTRS retirement.
Selection ProcedureApplications will be screened for completeness and minimum qualifications. A selection advisory committee will review candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and have submitted required documents to determine interviewees. Interviews are tentatively scheduled as follows: FIRST LEVEL INTERVIEWS the week of 03/16/2026; FINAL INTERVIEWS the weeks of 04/13/26 and 04/20/26.
The committee will rate responses to interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). A small number of applicants will be recommended to the President for final interviews. Final approval rests with the Board of Trustees.
