Job Description

Division/Department: Human Services – Medical Services

Reports To: Clinic Coordinator

Probationary Period: 90 days – Full time, 120 days – Part time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Classification: Child-Related CA

Driver’s License: Level 0 – No Driver's License Required.

Rate of Pay: $24.47-$27.53

Responsibilities
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the optical department.
  • Protect and process patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Pretest patients and take brief medical histories.
  • Assist with the selection, fitting, and demonstration of eyewear and contact lenses.
  • Document and place orders for contact lenses and glasses.
  • Maintain frame inventory and ensure compliance with contract stipulations.
  • Verify spectacle prescriptions using lensometers and other instrumentation.
  • Perform minor frame repairs according to optical policy.
  • Interview patients and record health information and relevant findings.
  • Provide instruction on contact lens insertion, removal, and care.
  • Coordinate eye‑care programs with external resources and division staff.
  • Prioritize tasks and maintain workflow in a complex, fast‑changing environment.
  • Ensure proper storage of pharmaceutical supplies and instruments.
  • Supervise daily payments reconciliation.
  • Assist in planning and conducting staff meetings.
  • Collect data for monthly and yearly reports.
  • Coordinate maintenance and information technology needs of the department.
  • Manage inventory and ordering for the optical department.
  • Perform optician duties such as sales, fittings, trimming, and troubleshooting eyewear problems.
  • Dress in appropriate professional attire.
  • Attend all mandatory department trainings.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and employee/client records.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to all requests, complaints, and problems.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to all others, including visitors and coworkers.
  • Represent the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department positively in the community.
  • Maintain proper attendance and report to work on time per applicable policies.
  • Keep a clean and organized work area.
  • Remain flexible to additional responsibilities assigned by management as needed.
Qualifications
  • No Driver's License Required.
  • Three years of optician experience providing direct service or having Optician certification.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs, and beliefs (preferred).
  • Experience working with Native American clients and communities, demonstrating cultural sensitivity (preferred).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to build professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
  • Subject to pre‑employment and annual background checks.
  • Subject to immunization review and required vaccination proof.
  • Some travel may be required.
