Under the administrative direction of the Recreation Coordinator, performs a wide range of tasks essential of procedures necessary for the operation and successful implementation of recreation programming and special events. The job entails the operation of various concession equipment, scorekeeping games/matches, making change, answering phones, and performing other front‑line duties as required.
Examples of Essential Job Functions- Provide customer service at concession stands.
- Serve as scorekeeper for youth basketball games and/or adult softball and sand volleyball matches.
- Assist the Recreation Coordinator with planning, developing, coordinating, or leading recreational activities and programs as needed.
- Supervise program participants in areas such as youth activities, adult and youth sport leagues, tournaments, and special events.
- Transport program participants using a City of Clive vehicle when assigned (must be age 18 or older).
- Maintain clean and safe concession areas.
- Perform daily cleaning of work area and food preparation equipment; assist in keeping facilities free of litter.
- Prepare and maintain concession items according to established procedures.
- Accurately handle cash transactions and make appropriate change.
- Wear assigned staff uniform while on duty.
- Answer phone calls courteously and take messages for staff and patrons.
- Enforce facility and program rules in a professional, courteous manner; refer guest concerns to the supervisor on duty.
Job Duties
- Attend required training and orientation sessions.
- Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to think logically and follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions using several abstract or concrete variables.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations, including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to follow instructions and directives accurately.
- Knowledge of the facility procedures and ability to learn equipment operation.
- Understanding of the safety precautions related to concession equipment and aquatic facilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co‑workers, and the public.
- Ability to tactfully manage a variety of social and customer service situations.
- Minimum age 16 or 18 if required to transport participants.
Education Required:
Enrollment in high school or higher education.
Experience
Required:
Experience working in recreation facilities or customer service‑related roles.
Sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, climbing, walking, finger dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Physical Characteristics of the JobModerate Physical Demand:
Work that involves lifting up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally and up to twenty‑five (25) pounds on a frequent basis.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with seasonal exposure to heat and cold. The position may involve exposure to unpleasant social situations, a fast‑paced work environment, and irregular work hours.
Equipment and Materials UsedThermometers; personal computer; general office equipment; printer; computer network; MSDS documentation; personnel policies; calculator; cash register; telephone; radio; PA system; lockers; coolers; various food preparation equipment (e.g., pretzel warmer, hot dog steamer, pizza warmer, ice machine, slush machine, sno‑cone machine, electric skillet, and popcorn machine).
