Overview
Under the administrative direction of the Recreation Coordinator, or the Recreation Manager, this position performs a wide variety of duties related to admission and concession operations at City facilities. Responsibilities include operating the Aquatic Center admissions system, using concession equipment, operating a computerized cash register, making change, answering phones, and performing other front-line customer service duties as assigned.

- Follow all guest relations policies and provide a pleasant entry and exit experience.
- Maintain clean and safe admission and concession areas.
- Perform daily cleaning of the work area and food preparation of equipment; assist others in maintaining clean and litter-free facilities.
- Prepare and maintain concession items according to established procedures.
- Handle money accurately, including making and returning change.
- Check each patron entering the pool for payment or pass and answer any admissions questions.
- Remind patrons of facility requirements, including showering before entering the pool.
- Consult a supervisor for approval on unusual or prohibited toys or items.
- Staff must wear staff uniform while on duty.
- Prevent loitering in the entryways, admissions, or concessions windows.
- Remain alert and report any dishonest practices or suspicious behavior.
- Answer incoming phone calls courteously; take and deliver messages as needed.
- Total receipts and run required reports at the end of the work shift and throughout the day as directed.
- Enforce facility rules in a courteous and professional manner; refer guest concerns to the on-duty supervisor.
- Must follow all equipment safety guidelines; employees under 16 are prohibited from operating equipment deemed hazardous by Iowa law.
- Seek supervisor assistance when unsure about equipment use, patron concerns, or safety issues.
Job Duties

Skills and Abilities
- Ability to think logically and follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions using several abstract or concrete variables.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations, including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to follow instructions and directives accurately.
- Knowledge of facility procedures and ability to learn equipment operation.
- Understanding of the safety precautions related to concession equipment and aquatic facilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, and the public.
- Ability to tactfully manage a variety of social and customer service situations.
- Minimum age 15 for general concession duties that do not involve selling, serving, or handling alcohol.
- Minimum age 16, with on-site supervision by an employee 18+, if the position includes any alcohol-related duties.
- Minimum age 18 if the role requires independent alcohol service or supervision of younger staff.
- Work hours may be scheduled in accordance with youth labor laws.
- Education Required:
Enrollment in high school or higher education. - Experience Preferred:
Experience working in recreation facilities or customer service-related roles.
- Sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, climbing, walking, finger dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Moderate Physical Demand:
Work that involves lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with seasonal exposure to heat and cold. The position may involve exposure to unpleasant social situations, a fast-paced work environment, and irregular work hours.
- Thermometers; personal computer; general office equipment; printer; computer network; MSDS/SDS documentation; personnel policies; calculator; cash register; telephone; radio; PA system; lockers; coolers; and various food preparation equipment (e.g., pretzel warmer, hot dog steamer, pizza warmer, ice machine, slush machine, sno-cone machine, electric skillet, and popcorn machine).
