AMIkids Piedmont was founded in 1996 to operate South Carolina DJJ's Piedmont Wilderness Institute. In response to changing demands of DJJ, AMIkids has transformed its program to AMIkids WINGS Piedmont, an female-only residential program with a 20‑bed capacity.
Programming for adolescent girls is uniquely different than programming for boys. Research has shown girls are more likely to be committed to residential program for less serious offenses than boys, and a majority of girls who are committed have diagnosed mental health problems, a history of traume and loss, and have suffered sexual or physical abuse. Providers of residential care for girls must have a deep understanding of differences between girls and boys in the juvenile justice system, and provide research‑based programing that directly responds to those differences.
The Activities Instructor is responsible for the implementation and coordination of experiential and recreational instruction for students, including but not limited to indoor, outdoor, and off‑site activities. The Activities Instructor will supervise student activities as required.
