Educational Interpreter

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Educational Interpreter to facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, educators, and staff within an educational setting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of American Sign Language (ASL) and the interpreting process, ensuring that all students have equal access to educational opportunities. This full-time position requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment and supporting the academic and social development of students.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and effective interpretation of spoken language to American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to understand lesson content, classroom dynamics, and student needs.
• Facilitate communication between students and their peers, promoting social interaction and inclusion.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students and staff.
• Assist in the development of individualized education plans (IEPs) by providing input on communication needs and strategies.
• Attend professional development workshops and training sessions to enhance interpreting skills and stay updated on best practices.
• Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback to educators and support staff as necessary.
• Support students in developing self-advocacy skills and independence in communication.
• Participate in school meetings, committees, and community events as required.
• Adhere to ethical standards and guidelines set forth by relevant professional organizations.

Requirements

• Candidate must have a minimum 3.3 score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
