The maintenance worker performs routine, entry-level duties related to the maintenance of the state's roadways and facilities. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision. MoDOT brings candidates onto the team as entry‑level, intermediate, or senior level based on skills and experience. This opening is a CAREER‑LADDER position that offers career advancement without the competitive selection interview process.
Responsibilities- Maintain state highway systems: fill roadway joints and cracks, patch potholes, flag and direct traffic, set up traffic control devices, load, unload, spread, and haul materials and supplies, cut and clear brush, remove trash and debris from roadsides, clean and clear ditches.
- Maintain, clean, and repair state highway facilities: repair and replace road signs and guardrails, clean curbs and gutters, paint buildings and equipment, and service equipment and machinery.
- Operate vehicles to transport employees, equipment, machinery, and/or materials; plow snow and spread ice control materials; mow right of way using tractor mower and hand tools;
Wifi operate auger, trencher, backhoe, forklift, and various trucks (dump, aerial boom, bucket, and platform). - Hand‑mark pavement with stop bars and turn arrows.
- Install and maintain signs: structural and large signs at overhead positions, inspect truss signs, pour concrete sign footings, weld and cut steel sign posts, repair and maintain breakaway or overlay signs.
- May repair bridge decks (full and partial) and drains, and clean bridge bents/caps at heights on ladders or using scaffolding.
- Job requires significant physical stamina and endurance, including moving materials by hand, operating hand tools, and performing stationary flagging.
- Job requires outdoor work that involves exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and adverse environmental characteristics in heavy traffic areas, on or near heavy equipment or machinery, and with hazardous chemicals or materials.
- Job may require overtime and nighttime rua work.
- Job may require operation of'].' vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
- High School Diploma or GED/HiSET.
- Valid Driver's License.
- A passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver's license (CDL) exam is required before the hire date. Must pass the driving portion with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class
B), and interstate status (Either Excepted Interstate or Non‑Excepted Interstate) within 60 days after hire. - Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical‑physical examination.
