Med Star Southern Maryland Hospital Center is looking for Assistant Directors of Nursing on our Med Surg floors. This is a rotating shift (Days and Evenings) – typically three evening shifts with five 8‑hour shifts per week.

We have the Med Star Georgetown Cancer Institute (MGCI) at Med Star Southern Maryland Hospital Center, which has technology not available anywhere else in the area, such as the Halcyon™ treatment system and Zap‑X®.

We have a strong neurosciences program, with Med Star Georgetown University Hospital neurologists and neurosurgeons available onsite.

The Assistant Director of Nursing is a member of Med Star Health’s entity‑based Division of Nursing and leadership team. They support and collaborate with the Director of Nursing in providing leadership and oversight for a specific unit/department. They direct and coordinate the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit‑based professional and support personnel, ensuring the provision of holistic, culturally competent, person‑centered, quality, safe, and cost‑effective evidence‑based nursing care for patients and families.

They apply the nursing process within the context of the organization's shared/collaborative decision‑making framework, collaboratively managing patient transitions across the continuum of care to assist patients and populations in achieving or maintaining optimal health. The Assistant Director assumes administrative and leadership authority and responsibility on a 24‑hour/7‑day per week basis for the assigned unit/department, fostering associates’ commitment to improving quality, safety, and cost‑conscious patient care outcomes.

They collaborate with the Director of Nursing in maintaining adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards and Med Star Health's policies and procedures, demonstrating leadership and behaviors consistent with Med Star's mission, vision, goals, SPIRIT Values, patient care philosophy, and sound moral and ethical judgment.

• BSN required
• Active MD or Compact RN license required
• Previous experience as a charge nurse or nursing supervisor in a hospital/acute care setting required
• 3–5 years minimum experience as an RN on a Med Surg unit
• 2–4 years minimum experience as a nursing leader on a Med Surg unit
