Location:
Baltimore City.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily bus maintenance activities to meet operational line requirements.
- Directly supervise A, B, and C Repair persons, Cleaners, Maintenance Control Clerks.
- Conduct daily shift meetings and provide instruction regarding shop rules, safety procedures, and operational expectations.
- Review and update daily activity reports and preventive maintenance schedules using maintenance management systems (e.g., Maximo).
- Coordinate with the Operations Control Center regarding service interruptions and road calls.
- Review road call reports and ensure timely resolution.
- Monitor workforce attendance and productivity, address manpower allocation to balance line requirements and preventive maintenance completion.
- Issue disciplinary actions in accordance with MTA policies and applicable labor contracts.
- Plan, coordinate, and personnel forecasting for the servicing of MTA buses and other vehicles.
- Employee tracking, distribution of random drug and alcohol testing, labor relations, initiating new procedures and ideas, issuing of disciplinary actions, and executing provisions of MTA Rules, Regulations and Policies as well as labor contract provisions.
- Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- Four years of experience in the repair, maintenance and inspection of heavy‑duty automotive vehicles and equipment.
- Two (2) years of supervisory/lead experience overseeing staff, assigning and reviewing work, providing direction and guidance, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Additional experience may be substituted for up to four years of the education requirement on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Additional technical or vocational training may be substituted for up to two years of the experience requirement on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Selective qualification recruitments are used when the position requires specific occupational qualifications; no substitution is allowed for a selective qualification.
- Employees are subject to twenty‑four (24)‑hour call‑in during special or weather events, emergency situations, or as deemed necessary.
- Work is usually performed in a vehicle garage setting which may be hazardous.
- May be required to travel and work outdoors at various locations throughout the MTA service area, in all types of weather conditions.
- Must wear daily protective clothing and equipment; additional protective clothing or safety equipment may be required for specific assignments.
- Employees are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with federal regulations.
- Must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
Managers should foster a positive safety culture by leading with integrity, establishing departmental safety practices, and enforcing all safety rules, policies, and personal protective equipment requirements. Employees must refrain from willful violations of safety rules, reckless and negligent behavior, criminal activities, and misuse of drugs or alcohol. Failure to adhere to these requirements may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
