Position: ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER I DRA Administrative Assistant (FULL-TIME CONTRACTUAL)

Introduction

The target starting hourly rate is $35/hour.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time contractual position is to provide administrative assistance to the Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA)'s Office Of Compliance And Regulation (OCR)'s Division Of Regulatory Affairs (DRA). This position will work closely with the Chief of OCR, as well as with DRA staff members, by providing assistance with the following:

  • Organization and maintenance of licensing, hearing, and other investigative files.
  • Communication with licensees, via phone and/or e-mail, regarding applications, requests, and other submissions, in addition to either answering licensee questions or triaging them to the appropriate resource.
  • Investigations of certain licensee advertisements, as well as the auditing of licensee websites and social media.
  • Coordination of communication with licensees regarding advertising issues and any disciplinary actions related to those issues.

This position will also serve as support to MCA's Hearing Office, which hears matters regarding license application denials or disciplinary actions taken against licensees and registrants. The position will be responsible for the full performance of administrative work that requires regular usage of independent judgment and analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:

One year of administrative staff or professional work experience.

Notes
  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Commissioned Officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules, or regulations; or analysis of operational programs; or procedures with recommendations for improvement, on a year‑for‑year basis, for the required experience.

The desired candidate should have experience interacting with external stakeholders in a professional setting. The desired candidate should also have professional experience in a fast‑paced work environment, with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities.

Additionally, the desired candidate should be self‑motivated, with an interest in completing various tasks and learning new skills as priorities shift. Finally, the desired candidate should possess excellent organizational and written communication skills.

Licenses, Registrations and Certifications

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Benefits

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract, and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.

As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits.
