Responsibilities- Consults with and assists physicians and nurses with respiratory care plan for patients and facilitates the implementation of physician orders.
- Assesses patients and evaluates the appropriateness and quality of respiratory care to identify each patient's needs and provide the appropriate care and communicate those needs with the patient's physician.
- Provides effective education to patients, students, co‑workers, and other members of the healthcare team as appropriate, including but not limited to smoking cessation education, device care and cleaning, medication side‑effects and dosage education, and respiratory therapies such as Incentive Spirometry, MDI/DPI usage, HHN usage, and CPT/Vest therapy education.
- Performs both fundamental and advanced diagnostic procedures including oximetry measurement, capnography, arterial puncture, mechanical ventilation waveform analysis, and pulmonary function testing.
- Performs emergency and acute respiratory care procedures in accordance with evidence‑based clinical practice guidelines and departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
- PRN; works as needed
- Shift; rotating shifts
- Must be registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care upon hire.
- Must be licensed as an RCP in the State of Iowa within one year of hire.
- Experience in another health‑care setting is desirable, with critical‑care experience preferred.
- Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.
- Must be ACLS certified within one year of hire.
- Must possess a personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and caring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
