Responsibilities- Consults with and assists physicians and nurses with respiratory care plan for patients and facilitates the implementation of physician orders.
- Assess patients and evaluates appropriateness and quality of respiratory care to identify each patient’s needs and provide the appropriate care and communicates those needs with the patient’s physician.
- Provides effective education to patients, students, co-workers, and other members of the healthcare team as appropriate. Including but not limited to; smoking cessation education, care and cleaning of device education, medication side effects and dosages education and respiratory therapies such as Incentive Spirometry, MDI/DPI usage, HHN usage, CPT/Vest therapy education.
- Performs both fundamental and advanced diagnostic procedures including oximetry measurement, capnography, arterial puncture, mechanical ventilation waveform analysis, and pulmonary function testing.
- Performs emergency and acute respiratory care procedures in accordance with evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, and departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
- PRN; works as needed
- Shift; rotating shifts
- Must be registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care upon hire.
- Must be licensed as an RCP in the State of Iowa within one year of hire.
- Experience in another healthcare setting is desirable, with critical care experience preferred.
- Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.
- Must be ACLS certified within one year of hire.
- Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
