Job Overview

Position: Behavioral Health Clinician - Clinton / New London

Location: Community Health Center of Clinton, Clinton, Connecticut
Employment Type: Full Time

Role & Responsibilities
  • Complete initial behavioral health evaluations and provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy for children and/or adults in an outpatient clinic, running at least five groups per week.
  • Practice as part of an interdisciplinary team, accepting warm hand‑offs and proactively identifying patients needing behavioral health services.
  • Consult with providers inside and outside the agency regarding treatment plans and patient progress.
  • Serve on the Behavioral Health on‑call roster for after‑hours coverage and daily clinic call.
  • Coordinate with psychiatric consultants for diagnostic and consultative needs; refer for medication management as required.
  • Attend clinical team and component meetings as assigned.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and, when appropriate, supervise unlicensed behavioral health staff.
  • Meet productivity standards and focus on quality clinical care.
  • Encourage clients to express feelings, facilitate insight, and develop coping strategies.
  • Conduct crisis interventions and assess safety concerns such as homicide, suicide or domestic violence risk.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans, adapting them as client status changes.
  • Collaborate with family members to support client progress.
  • Keep current on developments within the discipline and gather community mental‑health resources.
  • Complete all required documentation promptly, including intake, prior‑authorization requests, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.
  • Lock and finish all treatment notes by the close of the next business day.
  • Prepare reports for external agencies such as DCF, Family Relations, or probation when authorized.
  • Participate as a member of agency‑wide committees as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Terminal master’s or doctoral degree and credentials:
    Ph.D., Psy.

    D., LCSW, LPC, LADC, or LMFT.
  • License in the State of Connecticut.
  • Minimum two years of outpatient experience, including work with children and/or adults.
  • Reliable access to a vehicle or reliable transportation for consults, meetings, and home visits.
  • Preferred:
    Written and oral bilingual fluency in languages spoken by patients (e.g., English/Spanish).
Physical Requirements
  • Combination of sustained sitting at a keyboard, walking, and stair climbing.
  • Minimal lifting and carrying activities.
  • Availability to work one evening and one Saturday per month, and to participate in after‑hours on‑call coverage.
Communication Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Interfacing with patients, family members, community agencies, and other providers within the organization.
Confidentiality of Information
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of personal health information and patient records in compliance with CHC policies.
  • Responsible for data entry and access to medical system information.
