Position:
Cardiothoracic Surgical Assistant
As a member of the healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing advanced assessment, differential diagnosis, clinical decision-making, and initiation of treatment in collaboration with attending Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic surgeons.
Clinical activities are authorized and performed under the supervision of a physician, but not necessarily in their presence. Prescriptive authority is a delegated privilege under the collaborating physician.
You will assist in pre-, intra-, and post-care of all cardiac and thoracic patients. Responsibilities include preparing and recording patient histories, performing rounds and physical examinations, recording discharge summaries, assisting in surgical procedures, performing endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting intra-operatively, and formulating post-operative treatment plans.
Specific procedures within the specialty are credentialed based on your training and experience.
This role requires flexibility to work at least 2 shifts per month. Robotic experience is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree and completion of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant or Surgeon's Assistant program.
- Michigan state licensure and certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Preferably, cardiothoracic and vascular critical care or surgical experience.
- At least 1 year of First Assist experience.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, along with organizational, computer, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to react quickly and effectively to crisis situations following department protocols and guidelines.
