TISD Classroom Substitute

Primary Purpose:

To enable students in the assigned area to pursue their education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher.
Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Be dependable and of high moral character

Ability to work well with children

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Some experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies

Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he is assigned

Supervises the lessons outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.

Consults with the building principal before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the regular teacher's plans.

Verifies with the school secretary that his attendance will or will not be required on the following teaching day.

Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.

Maintain positive and effective communications and relationships with supervisors and colleagues.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Copier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
