The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting an Electrician to work in Engineering Service.

Experience: A specific length of training and experience is required. Applicants must show evidence they possess a Journeymen level Electrician card, have completed an Electrician apprenticeship program, or have 8 years of verifiable experience as an Electrician. Evidence demonstrating knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties must be supported by detailed descriptions on the resume.
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. The initial screening will evaluate qualification against the prescribed screen‑out element, usually question 1 in the online questionnaire. Eligible applicants are then rated against the remaining job elements: electric drawings, electrical equipment technical practices, troubleshooting, use and maintain tools and equipment.
Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work through National Service programs such as Peace Corps, Ameri Corps, and other professional, philanthropic, or community organizations. Volunteer work can provide critical competencies and training. Credit is given for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. A full year of work is considered 35–40 hours per week. Part‑time experience is credited based on actual time spent.
Applicants requesting credit must indicate clearly the nature, duties, and hours of each position.
- Troubleshooting, loading, and testing new electrical/electronic equipment.
- Repairing electronic/electrical segments of air conditioning and ventilating systems, communication systems, fire alarm systems, emergency power plants, motors, and controls.
- Understanding various gauges, sizes and types of wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers, and other electrical devices.
- Arranging and installing wires to ensure safe operation of systems and equipment worked on.
- Understanding mathematics including arithmetic and algebra.
- Using test instruments, recording devices, meters, ladders, scaffolds, lifting devices, rigging, and all hand/power tools pertinent to the electrical trade safely.
- Reading blueprints, sketches, building plans, engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams accurately to plan and lay out routing.
- Referring to and following technical guides and instruction manuals on new or existing equipment.
- Developing proper and cost‑effective solutions to non‑routine repair and construction tasks.
- Using and maintaining handheld and power operated equipment to perform necessary electrician tasks.
- Possessing journeymen electrician knowledge of the National Electrician Code (NEC).
- Maintaining a current, valid, state‑issued driver license.
- Work schedule:
Monday to Friday, 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. - Performing repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard‑to‑reach places.
- Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- Lifting and carrying tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) frequently, and up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) less often.
- Occasionally lifting or moving moderately heavy objects weighing more than 18 kilograms with assistance.
