Education:

High school diploma or GED

Experience:

• Experience in a customer service setting.
• Demonstrated interest in safety and security. Some experience in safety and security preferred.

Technical Expertise:

• Ability to analyze situations and quickly make sound judgements calmly and quickly.
• Ability to relate to diverse and special needs populations.
• Read, understand, and communicate information and ideas presented in writing.
• Use mathematics to solve problems.
• General principles and objectives of information technology systems and programs.
• Basic proficiency in MS Office or similar software is required. Relevant business equipment including the use of basic computer programs and systems.

• Assist patrons and staff with directions or information.
• Perform walking patrols on library campus.
• Monitor CCTV or building access control systems.
• Answer phone calls or radio broadcasts from staff and coworkers.
• Report any suspicious activity or accidents to a safety supervisor via two-way radio, phone or in person.
• Under the direction of a supervisor, serves as a safety representative at Library locations.
• Under the direction of a supervisor, may assist various departments with security related tasks.
• Under direction of a supervisor, assist with emergency evacuations, building sweeps and other activities related to the safety of a library location.
• Under the direction of a supervisor, assist patrons and staff during emergencies or disaster situations.
• Write incident reports and take notes on suspicious activities and report.
• Under the direction of a supervisor, assist in maintaining patron code of conduct.
• Report unauthorized person on campus to supervisor or via two-way radio.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
