Conservation Corps North Carolina (CCNC): CCNC empowers young adults through meaningful outdoor work that benefits North Carolina’s land and water and creates healthy communities. CCNC partners with public land managers in North Carolina to engage motivated young adults (ages 18-30) to complete conservation service projects across the region.

Project and Role

The Vegetation Management crew will work with the Croatan National Forest focusing specifically on vegetation management. This may include chainsaw use to cut invasive species, manual removal, herbicide application, brush cutting, tree planting, and other forest management activities to support ecosystem health. Crews camp overnight and work outdoors in all weather conditions, performing manual labor related to environmental conservation and restoration projects.

CCNC crews camp in the field; housing, food, and transportation arrangements vary by assignment. Some equipment may be borrowed; personal outdoor gear is encouraged where possible. In-field meals and group camp duties are part of the program.

Position Summary

ACLs facilitate a positive Crew Member experience and act as full partners with the Crew Leader. They assist with project management, partner communications, logistics, and crew assignments, and help communicate directions and feedback throughout the term. ACLs model strong work ethic, safety, and teamwork, and may participate outside of standard project hours. Flexibility with schedules, weather, and project needs is required.

Prior to start, ACLs must complete an online enrollment process (e-forms, IDs, Ameri Corps enrollment, background check). Accommodations may be available for those with limited online access.
