Overview
Vegetation Management Crew Member
Location: Based out of Bahama, NC but will be camping and working in various locations across North Carolina.
Status: Full-time, seasonal 450-hour Ameri Corps National Service position
Stipend: $600/week ($400/wk stipend, $200/wk housing), paid biweekly, with an $1,824.07 Segal Education Award upon completion of program.

The Vegetation Management crew will work with the Croatan National Forest focusing on vegetation management, including tasks such as chainsaw use to cut invasive species, manual removal, herbicide application, brush cutting, tree planting, and related forest management activities. Crews camp overnight and work outdoors in all weather, often hiking to remote work sites with tools and gear.
Schedule and Crew LifeField crews consist of 4 crew members and 2 crew leaders. They meet at Camp Slocum (north of Durham, NC), travel to project sites, and remain in the field for 9 days at a time, followed by 5 days off. Workdays are typically 8-10 hours with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch. Food is provided in the field; dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
Camp chores and group discussions on conservation topics are part of the program.
CCNC is an independent, non-residential program. Crew Members are responsible for housing, food, and transportation when not in the field, with gear provided as available. Members should supply as much personal gear as possible. Onboarding includes online enrollment (e-forms, IDs, Ameri Corps enrollment, background check). Accommodations may be available for those with limited online access.

- U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Residency.

- No prior outdoor experience required; comfort with outdoor living/work is helpful.
- Ability to use a chainsaw and other equipment on rugged terrain in inclement weather.
- First Aid Certification/CPR or willingness to participate in WFA training before start.
