Building Freedom Ohio Policy & Campaign ManagerThe OOC seeks a policy strategist to support Building Freedom Ohio chapters with local, state and federal criminal justice reform campaigns. BFO is a statewide membership organization that builds the leadership and power of people directly impacted by criminalization and mass incarceration. BFO fights for criminal justice reforms that address safety issues through restorative and community‑based alternatives to incarceration. This person should be committed to learning the BFO and OOC organizing model, building relationships within the BFO membership base, and working with external partners to co‑lead justice campaigns.

- Self‑motivated and detail‑oriented critical thinker with a strong track record of managing multiple initiatives concurrently.
- Committed to the principles of social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a leadership background.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Strong policy and campaign strategy skills, relational and interpersonal skills, and superior written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in office and database software, and social media platforms.
- At least one year of related experience is preferred.
- Work effectively with diverse staff, leaders, partners, and the general public.
- Collaborate with the team and supervisor to develop and implement campaign and work plans, and a yearly professional development plan.
- Align different interests across race, class, and gender to build community power for progressive reforms.
- Identify, develop, and advance campaign and policy objectives that serve the interests of the BFO membership.
- Partner with organizers to build the capacity of formerly incarcerated people and their families to take strategic action on criminal justice reform.
- Strategize and implement short‑ and long‑term campaigns at the local, regional, and statewide levels with partners, researchers, and internal teams.
- Train grassroots leaders and groups to identify attainable issues through participatory research and political education.
- Support effective calls to action, including outreach activities (canvassing, phone/texting, tabling), leadership development, and large‑scale public actions (community conversations, town halls, public meetings, direct actions).
- Integrate community organizing with long‑term, community‑driven policy change efforts.
- Participate in campaign framing and messaging, collaborating on talking points, press releases, reports, social media, and other communications materials as needed.
- Attend and actively participate in team and statewide meetings, submit all reports promptly, and attend professional organizer training as required.
Full‑time salaried position. A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience is preferred but not required. Benefits include health/dental insurance, vacation, and a retirement match. Applicants must possess a cell phone, Ohio driver’s license, and reliable automobile. In‑state and national travel is required; some weekend and evening hours may be necessary. Physical requirements include frequent standing and walking, moderate lifting.
