Position SummaryThe Production Planning & MRP Manager is responsible for developing, executing, and continuously improving production planning, scheduling, and material requirements planning (MRP) processes within a food production and packaging operation. This role ensures the right materials are available at the right time to meet production schedules, customer demand, and food safety standards while minimizing inventory costs and waste.
This position plays a critical role in balancing demand, capacity, labor, and materials in a fast-paced, high-growth manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities Production Planning & Scheduling- Develop and maintain short- and long-term production plans aligned with sales forecasts, customer demand, and operational capacity.
- Create and manage detailed production schedules for food manufacturing and packaging lines.
- Partner closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Warehouse teams to ensure schedule feasibility and execution.
- Adjust schedules in real time to address changes in demand, labor availability, equipment downtime, or material constraints.
- Own and manage the MRP system to ensure accurate material planning, purchase signals, and inventory levels.
- Ensure Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, lead times, and safety stock parameters are accurate and maintained.
- Collaborate with Procurement to ensure timely purchasing of raw materials, ingredients, packaging, and consumables.
- Monitor inventory levels to reduce excess, obsolescence, spoilage, and shortages while supporting service-level goals.
- Act as a key liaison between Sales/Forecasting, Procurement, Production, Quality, and Finance.
- Support S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) or demand planning processes.
- Communicate production plans, constraints, and risks clearly to stakeholders.
- Ensure planning activities support food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements (FSMA, SQF, HACCP, GMPs).
- Account for shelf-life, allergen controls, sanitation schedules, and changeover requirements in planning.
- Track and report key KPIs such as schedule adherence, inventory turns, material availability, and forecast accuracy.
- Identify and lead process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve service levels.
- Support system enhancements, ERP/MRP upgrades, and data accuracy initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or MRP within food manufacturing or CPG.
- Strong working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems.
- Proven ability to manage complexity in a fast-paced, high-change environment.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Experience in refrigerated, frozen, or fresh food production environments.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as Net Suite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar.
- Experience supporting S&OP or integrated business planning processes.
