Position:
Terminal Operator

Reports to:

Terminal Manager

Shift: Monday through Friday. Summer: 6:00am–3:30pm;
Winter: 7:00am–3:30pm

Pay: $20–$22/hr

What you’ll be contributing

Reporting to the Terminal Supervisor, the incumbent will operate and maintain equipment involved in loading and unloading cement from silos, rail cars, or trucks.

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Receive, position and unload hopper rail cars or trucks according to accepted unloading practices. Report operating and maintenance problems to the Terminal Supervisor.
  • Load customer trucks and common carriers in a timely and efficient manner, recognizing company policies on load limits and clean air standards.
  • Prepare bills of lading and maintain inventory records.
  • Perform emergency, periodic and preventive maintenance on all equipment according to the terminal maintenance program.
  • Recommend cost-saving and work simplification ideas.
  • Maintain the terminal in a clean, neat and tidy condition reflecting the company’s image.
  • Support the company safety program through the use of safety equipment and safe work methods.
  • Handle special assignments or projects as needed.
  • Able to handle terminal operations alone for short periods; shift hours require careful and responsible work habits for longer periods.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
What you’ll need to succeed
  • High school graduation or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Willingness to learn; training will be provided.
  • Basic math aptitude for paperwork.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Mechanical ability is an asset.
  • Ability to climb stairs several times a day.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 74 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 250 ft and in confined spaces.
  • Experience with inventory control software; proficiency with MS Word and Excel is preferred.
What to expect in a cement environment

Work to be performed in a open environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise with safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to heights up to 250 feet. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may involve jarring and vibratory exposure.
