Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore Truck Assistant and Utility Associate works with the ReStore Truck Driver in ensuring safe and efficient transportation by supporting the primary driver with various tasks, including loading/unloading, navigation, and customer communication. Works with volunteers and staff to manage the procurement, pick‑up, intake, routing and sale of donated building materials, furniture and tools.
Key Responsibilities- Supports the driver in picking up and delivering goods, ensuring timely and safe transportation.
- Discerns which potential donations to accept.
- Properly loads and unloads donations, ensuring that items are secured properly to prevent damage during transit.
- Properly maintains donation paperwork.
- Unloads truck upon return to the ReStore warehouse.
- Ensures adherence to safety policies and procedures. Helps check vehicle conditions and assist in safe driving practices.
- Assists with navigating to daily routes.
- Operates heavy equipment including but not limited to forklifts.
- Performs multiple labor‑related activities on a day‑to‑day basis.
- Prepares and places items in ReStore for sale.
- Organizes and maintains merchandise displays.
- Works with and guides volunteers in their roles.
- Assists with the organization and maintenance of merchandise displays and inventory.
- Assists in the set‑up (clean, sort items, price items) of ReStore.
- Interacts positively with donors, volunteers, and customers.
- Provides superior customer service to donors and customers.
- Answers customers’ and donors’ questions, and provides information.
- Assists in resolving customer complaints.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
- High school coursework or related vocational training.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Driver’s Assistant on a commercial vehicle.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs. daily.
- Must be able to stand for 4 hours.
- Superior customer service skills.
- Ability to work with the public in a professional manner at all times.
- Commitment to a cooperative work ethic.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written).
- Strong organizational ability and time‑management skills.
- Ability to lead and support volunteers.
- Capacity to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities.
- Commitment to GCHFH Mission and the principles of HFH.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience assisting in a box truck.
- Previous experience as a mover, including duties related to packing and transporting belongings.
- Must be able to read maps and use Map Quest or a similar online web mapping service.
- Reports to:
Donations Manager. - Job Type: Full‑time (35‑40 hours); non‑exempt.
- Typical workweek:
Shift: 8‑hour shift, Tuesday through Saturday 8 – 4:30 p.m. - Targeted rate: $15 – $16 per hour; commensurate with experience.

Work Environment &Physical Requirements
This position primarily functions in a box truck as part of their assisting duties. Secondary functions operate in a storefront/warehouse environment with standard associated equipment. Candidates must be comfortable navigating these tasks sometimes in varying weather conditions. Seated, standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs. with assistance).
