Job Summary

The Architect – IP Network is the principal technical authority responsible for the end‑to‑end IP network architecture supporting Video, IPTV, OTT, and Streaming platforms across Canada and U.S. operations. This role defines and governs the network architecture standards, design patterns, and evolution roadmap for high‑availability, high‑throughput video delivery environments, including CDN, RPHY, core transport, data center interconnect, and cloud‑integrated networks. The incumbent operates at a strategic and architectural level, guiding long‑term investments, validating vendor designs, mitigating systemic risk, and ensuring the IP network can sustainably support large‑scale video growth, platform modernization, and strict SLA targets.

Job Responsibilities
  • IP Network Architecture & Strategy
    • Own the reference architecture for IP networks supporting Video & IPTV platforms.
    • Define architectural standards for:
      Core, aggregation, and edge IP networks, Multicast and unicast video delivery, High‑capacity east‑west and north‑south traffic flows.
    • Lead 3–5 year architectural roadmap aligned with business growth and platform evolution.
    • Ensure architectural consistency across Ontario, Quebec, and U.S. footprints.
  • CDN, Transport & Traffic Engineering
    • Architect large‑scale CDN delivery networks.
    • Define throughput, peering, and traffic‑engineering strategies to support:
      High‑bitrate A  streaming, Peak live events, Disaster recovery scenarios.
    • Validate performance claims and architectural dependencies (e.g., firmware, topology changes).
    • Design scalable cache hierarchies, origin protection, and failover models.
  • RPHY, Access & Core Network Integration
    • Architect IP integration between Video platforms and: RPHY nodes, CBR8 and next‑gen access platforms, DOCSIS and hybrid fiber environments.
    • Define multicast, QoS, and latency requirements for video traffic.
    • Ensure clean demarcation and alignment between Video, Access, and Core Network teams.
  • Vendor Architecture Governance
    • Act as the final architectural authority for vendor‑proposed network designs.
    • Challenge and approve:
      Network topologies, Firmware and hardware dependencies, Scaling assumptions and limits.
    • Support commercial negotiations by validating:
      Gold vs Bronze support models, Long‑term cost and risk implications.
    • Represent the organization in executive‑level technical discussions and QBRs.
  • Security, Compliance & Risk Architecture
    • Architect network‑level security for video platforms, including:
      Tokenization and session stickiness, Geo‑IP and VPN detection, DDoS and traffic anomaly mitigation.
    • Ensure compliance with: DRM delivery requirements, TLS and encryption standards.
    • Lead architectural risk assessments for major network changes.
  • Cross‑Functional Technical Leadership
    • Serve as the architectural bridge between:
      Video Engineering, Network Engineering, Operations, Security, IT / Cloud teams.
    • Translate business and operational requirements into architectural decisions.
    • Provide technical direction and mentorship to senior engineers and operations leads.
    • Act as a technical specialist and work closely with the manager to define the strategic direction and execute the developed plans.
Essential Qualifications Academic Background
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, IT, or a related field is an asset.
Work Experience
  • 10+ years in large‑scale IP network environments
  • 10+ years of experience as a specialist in technology infrastructure.
  • 10+ years of experience managing technology projects.
Specific Skills
  • Proven experience designing carrier‑grade networks supporting video or latency‑sensitive services.
  • Strong background in: IP routing (BGP, OSPF, IS‑IS), Multicast (PIM, IGMP), Traffic engineering and capacity modeling, F5 Architecture and maintenance.
  • Experience in MSO, ISP, or Tier‑1 service provider environments strongly preferred.
