Base pay range

$90,550.00/yr - $/yr

The Database Administrator plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of the organization’s data systems. This professional designs, implements, and maintains databases that support business critical operations while actively partnering with teams across the organization.

Success in this role depends on strong collaboration and communication, engaging stakeholders to understand their needs, asking thoughtful questions, and approaching challenges with curiosity and creativity. As a strategic partner to development teams, the Database Administrator provides expert planning, installation, configuration, administration, and ongoing support. Through proactive analysis and innovative problem solving, they ensure that database environments remain optimized, scalable, and aligned with evolving organizational requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops, implements, and schedules database management plans, programs, and utilities to ensure high performance, availability, and efficiency.
  • Administers databases in high‑availability environments, including clustering, replication, monitoring, backup/restore, recovery, security, capacity management, data modeling, and user access.
  • Develops system‑specific specifications, backup and recovery procedures, and methodologies for data modeling and integration across IT specialties.
  • Collaborates with departments across the organization to understand data needs, translate requirements into technical solutions, and deliver database or reporting outputs that meet business objectives.
  • Performs database upgrades, conversions, and migrations.
  • Audits database systems and resolves issues related to performance, capacity, replication, and security.
  • Analyzes information needs, data relationships, data flow, storage requirements, and reporting capabilities.
  • Provides consulting and technical support to application programmers, systems analysts, management, clients, and users.
  • Responds to and resolves production and application issues on a 24‑hour on‑call basis.
  • Administers Power BI, including creation of ad‑hoc reports and data visualizations for internal stakeholders.
  • Performs setup and configuration of standalone and clustered operational databases and data warehouses.
  • Designs, implements, and maintains logical and physical data models, including entity‑relationship diagrams, normalization, design reviews, and physical object changes.
  • Writes platform‑independent and platform‑specific scripts for ETL processes, data migration, data warehouse population, and job scheduling.
  • Stays current with emerging database technologies and evaluates new tools for potential implementation.
  • Develops, implements, and documents installation procedures, monitoring processes, security policies, configuration change procedures, and database/data warehouse usage guidelines.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or a related field. Minimum of three years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server in a large, business‑critical environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities.

Qualifications
  • Preferred certifications include:
    Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Microsoft Certified:
    Azure Data Engineer Associate, and Azure Database Administrator Associate.
  • Most possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Advanced design, implementation, and administrative expertise with MS SQL Server (2008+).
  • Strong background in data modeling, migration, and conversion.
  • Experience with SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
  • Proficiency with MS‑SQL;
    Postgre

    SQL experience preferred.
  • Experience with Power BI and the ability to analyze large datasets.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences in both individual and group settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated management and business acumen, including problem solving, strategic thinking, multi‑project coordination, leadership, and decision‑making.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Professional maturity, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential information.
Work Days

Monday - Friday

Work Location

This position is expected to work from Cleveland Metroparks Administrative Offices or other sites around the park district the majority of the time, but remote workdays may be accommodated on a case‑by‑case basis.
