Our Human Resources department has an excellent opportunity for a Benefits Manager at the One Cleveland Center office. This exempt position reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Responsibilities
  • Draft and present communications for the Firm’s health, welfare and retirement plans.
  • Plan, implement and administer benefits programs that protect employees against loss of income due to illness, injury, separation, or retirement.
  • Administer the Firm’s retirement plans and prepare and communicate semi‑annual eligibility notices.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of benefits programs, advising management on revisions and new program development.
  • Provide prompt and accurate administrative services for benefit inquiries.
  • Consult with office management on problem‑solving and design of market‑driven benefit programs.
  • Develop and maintain statistical data on current benefit programs and proposed changes to aid decision‑making.
  • Keep up‑to‑date with local, state and federal laws, ensuring compliance and timely ACA reporting.
  • Compile, prepare and present data to analyze firm practices and maintain competitiveness.
  • Develop, proof and transmit non‑discrimination testing files to actuaries annually.
  • Work with Finance and Fidelity to distribute allowable distributions from the Partner Cash Balance Plan and publish required documentation.
  • Produce updated schedules of Addendum Retirement benefits annually and publish reports to relevant partners.
  • Maintain records and files, including plan documents and contracts related to benefit programs.
  • Ensure proper enrollment, termination, deduction accuracy, vendor invoicing, auditing, record‑keeping and reporting of benefit programs. Provide statutory information for W‑2s to payroll.
  • Develop estimated and actual benefit costs for budgeting with assistance from Finance.
  • Act as liaison between the Firm and outside consultants, actuaries and carriers for problem‑solving, renewal and contract negotiations.
  • Develop and publish open enrollment materials annually and manage beneficiary mailings and compensation statements to staff.
  • Perform clerical functions such as updating records; approve loans and withdrawals from retirement plans according to rules and regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise two employees in the benefits area.
  • Plan, assign, and direct work; train personnel; appraise performance; address complaints; and resolve problems in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience; law‑firm experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as plan documents, summary plan descriptions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and speak effectively to all levels of staff.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages; apply basic bookkeeping and record‑keeping concepts.
  • Ability to apply common‑sense reasoning to carry out written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions; handle problems with several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer applications, including HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of UKG preferred;
    Benefits Administration (Plan Source) is a plus.
