Acts as a liaison between psychiatry services and other healthcare teams, ensuring collaborative and integrated patient care.

Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer, the Associate Medical Director, Psychiatry (AMD‑P) plays a crucial role in leading the psychiatric services of the organization and is responsible for overseeing the psychiatric staff, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality mental health care, and integrating psychiatric services with other medical departments. Acts as a liaison between psychiatry services and other healthcare teams, ensuring collaborative and integrated patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management:
    Direct and oversee the psychiatric staff, including the recruitment, orientation, retention, and ensuring adherence to quality and productivity standards.
  • Policy and Procedure Development:
    Assist in the development and implementation of psychiatric policies, procedures, and standards of care to ensure the delivery of high‑quality mental health services.
  • Program Development:
    Contribute to the creation and execution of innovative psychiatric programs and services that align with the organization’s overall objectives and patient needs.
  • Budget and Administration:
    Participate in budgeting and administrative processes related to psychiatric services, ensuring resources are effectively allocated to support delivery of services.
  • Collaboration and Liaison:
    Assist in establishing and maintaining strong relationships with hospitals, other medical departments, and external mental health organizations to enhance service integration and collaborative care.
  • Quality Assurance:
    Oversee quality assurance and utilization reviews specific to psychiatric services.
  • Professional Development:
    Identify and address the professional development needs of the psychiatric staff, creating an environment that supports learning, growth, and development through continuous education.
  • Compliance and Credentialing:
    Assure compliance of psychiatric services with relevant regulations and standards, including internal credentialing requirements and external agency requirements.
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR):
    Promote the effective use of EMR within psychiatric services to enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and staff satisfaction through collaboration with IT and medical informatics departments.
  • Community and Professional Representation:
    Represent the organization’s psychiatric services to external stakeholders, engage in community mental health initiatives, and showcase the organization as a desirable place for psychiatric professionals to practice.
  • Clinical Psychiatric Practice:
    Maintain clinical practice, including review, screening, and diagnostic evaluation of patients at least 60% of allotted FTE time.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications
  • Education and Licensure:
    • Board‑certified Psychiatrist (MD or DO)
    • Active license to practice as a psychiatrist in the State of Ohio.
  • Experience:
    • 2+ years post‑training work experience preferred
    • Demonstrate breadth and depth of knowledge in psychiatry practices
    • Strong understanding of integrated healthcare delivery systems and healthcare leadership
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with a deep understanding of mental health care practices and policies.
    • Skillful in and committed to demonstrating cultural competence while caring for diverse populations.
  • Knowledge:
    • Understanding of public health policy, mental health systems, and the medical home model of care.
  • Abilities:
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, make strategic decisions, and lead interdisciplinary teams.
  • Meet and maintain credentialing requirements of a clinician including BLS certification, NPI and DEA registration, among other requirements.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and the use of electronic communication devices.
  • Requires local travel and occasional overnight travel for national engagements. Valid Driver’s License and insurance required.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
  • Able to work in a fast‑paced, occasionally stressful environment.
