Pay Range: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour.

Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager, assist clients who are blind, have low vision and some with other disabilities to successfully participate in a diverse range of recreational activities and field trips. Recreational activities take place at Cleveland Sight Center’s primary location at 1909 East 101 st Street in Cleveland, Ohio, virtually and at a variety of sites throughout the greater Cleveland area.

The summer assistant will be responsible for recreation participation, helping clients and safety during activities.
Training is provided.

Employees must be age 18 by the first day of work. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Essential functions:

  • Assist clients during recreation activities and field trips including guidance, and other hands on assistance.
  • Help maintain safety at all times.
  • Help facilitate planned recreation activities.
  • If desired, plan and lead activities with assistance from manager.
  • Provide socialization for clients.
  • Assist clients with managing their money while on field trips.
  • Set up and tear down of various programs and activities.
  • May help clients in registering for activities and completing required paperwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Performs duties with responsibility and reliability.
  • Fulfill duties using time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Able to be a self-starter and self-motivated.
  • Able to independently make decisions based on policies provided.
  • Perform duties with integrity, honesty, and fairness.
  • Able to work in a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Able to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience working with people with disabilities is helpful, although not required.
  • Experience working with people of all ages who have disabilities, although not required.
  • Prior recreation and facilitation experience, although not required.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Some college experience preferred. Coursework emphasis in recreation, exercise science, education, social services, rehabilitation and therapy desired, although not required.
Equipment/Tools Used
  • Depending on role, may use Personal computer; software including Word, Excel, Outlook, client chart
  • Depending on role, may use computer scanner.
Physical Requirements

Work is fast-paced. Physical ability to ambulate, lift, push wheelchair, walk long distances, stand, hike, participate in recreational games and activities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and have the ability to stand, sit, bend. Must have the capacity to travel with or without clients; ability to go out in the community with clients.

Once hired, the employee must have reliable transportation. If driving for agency, must have current and sufficient automobile insurance and an acceptable driving record.
