Engaged Learning Behavioral Health Crisis Intervention Co-Responder Job Summary

Provides clinical mental health support and guidance in partnership with Cleveland State University ( CSU ) Police Department (PD) when responding to on‑call crisis needs. Will accompany CSU Police to calls to provide mental health supports. The Co‑Responder applies evidence‑based interventions to de‑escalate situations, assess needs, and connect to additional support. Provides training to CSU PD and other CSU community stakeholders, manages all administrative tasks related to the grant, engages in community outreach, and completes research related to mental health and college students.

Attends meetings (e.g., Community Assessment Response & Evaluation (CARE) Team and High‑Risk Group) to share insight and assist in determining next steps in a support plan. Promotes a campus culture of student support and outreach. Interacts professionally, demonstrating equity and inclusion, with all internal and external stakeholders and works to remove any stigma associated with mental health support. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree preferably in Social Work, Counseling, School Counseling, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience doing clinical work in a mental health setting.
  • Licensed in Ohio ( LSW , LPC , or similar).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Independent Mental Health Licensure ( LISW , LPCC , or similar)
  • Experience with mobile crisis work or de‑escalating crisis.
  • Experience in a high acuity mental health setting, such as inpatient.
  • Experience with case management or making community referrals.
  • CARE /Behavior Intervention Team (BIT) experience.
  • Prior administrative management of a grant.

  • Ability to work non‑standard work hours (second shift).
  • Ability to thrive working with diverse populations and commitment to inclusion, equity, and access. Ability to work successfully across a broad spectrum of the CSU community and community partners.
  • Ability to manage complex and confidential matters.
  • Ability to triage, prioritize, and work independently.
  • Ability to manage projects, meet deadlines and tackle emergencies and difficult situations.
  • Strong organizational and excellent interpersonal skills and have a “Customer Focus” attitude and delivery. Ability to apply caring, thoughtful support and intervention.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Ability to follow established processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to utilize case management or electronic medical record software.
